The Hobbitjedi - Glossary of Terms for Gundam Wing

This glossary covers important terms to Gundam Wing and some are important to know, if you don’t already, for reading through the character and mobile suit information. There is some spoiler information here.

Mobile Suit (MS) - a robotic suit standing around 20 meters in height that is capable of being piloted by a human in most instances.

Mobile Doll - a mobile suit that can be controlled by a computer rather than a human pilot.

Gundanium - a rare alloy that can only be manufactured in space and is nearly indestructible.

After Colony (AC) - the calendar year used to identify the period in history in which some of mankind has moved to massive space colonies orbiting the earth at various La Grange points, places of orbital stability between the earth and the moon. The events of Gundam Wing the series begin in AC 195.

Operation Meteor - in the series, this is the plan to send the 5 Gundams to earth to eliminate the Alliance and OZ and bring freedom to the oppressed colonies. In Endless Waltz, it is revealed that the plan originally included dropping a colony on the earth and sending the Gundams to gain control in the ensuing confusion. The scientists who developed the Gundams changed the plan to the former in order to avoid a senseless massacre.

United Earth Sphere Alliance (UESA) - the Alliance is the organization controlling the earth and colonies before being overthrown. Originally started to bring peace, it oppresses the colonies.

Order of the Zodiac (OZ) - the name of the secret military organization that is controlled by Treize Khushrenada and seeks to control the earth and the colonies. A "Specials" unit of OZ troops hides within the Alliance to overthrow it. Note that the mobile suits made by OZ are named after Zodiac signs.

Romefellar Foundation - the elite group of aristocrats of which Treize Khushrenada is a member. It develops mobile suits and financially backs OZ.

Sanc Kingdom - a pacifist nation that was destroyed about 15 years before the events of Gundam Wing because its stance clashed with the plans of the Alliance. It was ruled by the peacecraft monarchy. Relena Peacecraft seeks to revive it.

Heero Yuy - the pacifist leader who unified that colonies around the time of the Sanc Kingdom’s collapse. He and King Peacecraft were working to bring peace before both were killed. The Gundam pilot Heero Yuy is given the former leader’s name as a codename.

Winner Foundation - a wealthy, family-owned group that works to better the colonies and opposes armaments for whatever their purpose. Quatre Raberba Winner is the intended heir to the Winner Foundation though he did not agree with his father’s pacifist stance.

White Fang - a group of colony citizens who rebel against the OZ takeover of the colonies. They choose to fight and takeover many of the mobile dolls and the space fortress Libra from OZ. They are lead by a man named Quinze and are regarded as a threat to peace by the Gundams. Zechs Marquise becomes their leader.

Barton Foundation - in Endless Waltz, the group of colony citizens controlled by Dekim Barton that seeks to rule the earth and the colonies. It financially backed Operation Meteor and supported the White Fang.

Mariemaia Army - in Endless Waltz, the soldiers pledging themselves to Dekim Barton call themselves the Mariemaia Army after Mariemaia Khushrenada, the genetically created daughter of Treize Khushrenada. Dekim Barton created, trained, and controls her and uses her as a figurehead so that he can gain power.

Preventer Group - in Endless Waltz, the Preventers is the group headed by Lady Une to stop anyone from starting another conflict. Sally Po and Lucrezia Noin are also members. Zechs and Wufei join later.

Earth Sphere Unified Nations (ESUN) - the group formed at the close of the series to peacefully unify earth and space. It is threatened in Endless Waltz.

Libra - a space fortress built mainly by OZ and taken over by the White Fang. It has a massive beam cannon that is capable of destruction on a planetary scale.

Peacemillion - a space fortress, though more like a ship than Libra, controlled by Howard that he uses to aid Zechs Marquise for a time and later uses to help the Gundams.

Beam Weapon - many weapons in Gundam Wing shoot powerful blast of energy varying in degree based on the gun used. Melee weapons, like swords and scythes, are also powered by beam energy.
