How Gundam Began & Prospered
The Gundam saga began airing in Japan in 1979, the year I was born. Although it was not an immediate success, it gained a group of fans and built up the momentum it needed to become what it is today. Most of the Gundam series follow the Universal Century, or UC, timeline. Click on the logos to see some images from these three of the series. The section for Gundam 0080 is actually being developed. There are several more series and movies that I don't have any pictures for. . . yet.

The original series takes place in the year UC 0079. The Principality of Zeon rises up to fight the oppressive earth government. Amuro Ray becomes the pilot of the Federation's advanced new mobile suit, Gundam. Amuro must fight to defeat Zeon and work to bring peace to the earth and space.

Airing in 1996, the O8th MS Team is also set in UC 0079. Shiro Amada is sent to command the 08th Team in Southeast Asia, but he has doubts about the war. He and a Zeon pilot, Aina Sahalin, have fallen in love, having been through an ordeal together, but her brother, Ginias, is building Zeon a terrible new weapon.

Released in 1989, 0080 tells a story following the One Year War of 0079 from the perspective of a small boy named Al. Al is befriended by a Zeon pilot named Bernie who is seeking the Federation's new Gundam suit. It's pilot is Al's neighbor Chris, and she and Bernie will find themselves at odds right before Al's eyes.

Released in 1991 and 1992, 0083 follows the Federation pilot Kou Uraki and his Gundam as he pursues Anavel Gato, an ace Zeon pilot. Gato has stolen a Gundam armed with nuclear weapons, but that is just the start of the plans to bring about Zeon's rebirth. Kou must master his Gundam and defeat Gato to avert disaster.
