Bernie is a Zeon mobile suit pilot. He meets a young boy named Al when he is shot down during a fight in a colony at Side Six. He and Al later develop a friendship when Bernie returns to the colony to investigate the Federation's secret activities there. Teaching Al valuable lessons about the harsh nature of war, Bernie finds himself in an odd postion as the colony becomes the target of a Zeon nuclear attack.
